Everywhere you go today people have a website from the local butcher to the hair salon and even to neighborhood cat seem to have an online presence so it is agreed that most people require a website in one form or the other. But what is the point if nobody is every going to see and once built you never update. You see that you must first and foremost be important enough in your career or chosen field for people to look you up so if your not important enough for people to call upon in life then an online presence is hardly going to help.
I did a small experiment and set up a website with just my name as the title surprisingly I was getting a large number of hits but that is because I have a very strong offline business which people often contact me for so I am in demand so to speak without trying to sound too vain.
I mean you should have at least a one page site where you put your details for old friends and colleagues to find you should you lose touch along with a small amount information that only people who truly recognize you and know you would know as a small filter of potentially unwanted contacted because if you have a relatively popular name then your going to get spam and text.
As for business every business should have an online presence although the the be all and end all in business it will help bring in a small amount of business you would not have otherwise.
